JAMES BLUNDELL TO HEADLINE DROUGHT THEMED CONCERTS
Posted: 27 June 2008
James Blundell is joining forces with the NSW State Government to headline a series of special country music concert events in southern and western NSW that aim to give families a break from the stresses of drought.
The Iemma Government has provide funding to help support the six concert events, which kick off in Urana on 4 July and are headlined by country singer and former farmer Blundell.
“These events are being organised in parts of the State that are doing it very tough through this ongoing drought – and are designed to give families and communities a chance to come together and enjoy a night out,” said NSW Minister for Primary Industries Ian Macdonald on his department’s official press release.
“These concerts are another part of the NSW Government’s ongoing drought assistance - we have already committed more than $390 million to drought support, and we will continue to stick by our rural communities for as long as it takes.
“The concerts are being coordinated by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI)’s drought support workers, with sponsorship and support from a range of community and Government agencies.
“These songs won’t make it rain or lift market prices but they will remind us this has all happened before and every day it doesn’t rain is one day closer to when it does,” say Blundell. “While you’re waiting please come along, have a drink, a feed and enjoy your freedom.”
Joining James on all shows will be Peter Denahy who was recently seen on Big Brother and is going from strength to strength with his album ‘Picture in a Frame’. 2008 New Talent Golden Guitar winner Kirsty Lee Akers and singer–songwriter Tamara Stewart are also taking time out from their busy schedules to throw their support behind the ‘Living and Working on the Land’ concert series. Admission is free and there will a range of entertainment activities for the children and the whole family.
Coordinating the entertainment side of the show is Square One Entertainment’s Neil Richards (manager of James Blundell and Kirsty Lee Akers) who is happy to hear from other performers willing to give their time to support these events.
