Top End Victorian Bush Fires Appeal Concert

Posted: 08 April 2009

James Blundell, Kirsty Lee Akers, Rob Black and Liam Brew will perform a concert at Darwin’s Gardens Amphitheatre to raise funds for the Red Cross Victorian Bush Fire Appeal The event has been organised by Bud Streten of Red Centre Consultancy, a Darwin based Indigenous Affairs Company whose primary business is Cultural Heritage and Native Title mainly within the Mining and Exploration sector. Red Centre is also involved in community development. “I know that a lot of people have all ready donated vast amounts of money to this cause but there is still people living down there in tents and swags,” says Streten, who has taken off time from his business to organise the event. “With no money or food they are trying to grieve for friends and family that have been lost.” “I have no doubt that a number of these victims were amongst those who donated money to the people of Darwin in 1974 when Cyclone Tracy left a path of destruction. The day after Cyclone Tracy, during Melbourne’s Boxing Day Test players from both teams walked around the field with collection tins as the Victorians threw money down to the field. I think it’s only fair that us as Territorians return the favour.” James Blundell, ambassador for local airline Airnorth, is a regular visitor to the Territory and jumped at the opportunity to perform at one of his favourite places in Australia. Compass Brothers label mates Kirsty Lee Akers, Rob Black and 2009 Toyota Star Maker Winner Liam Brew plus NT’s Kate Oliver will all be performing lengthy sets. Blundell, Akers & Black will all be performing with bands whilst Oliver and Brew will perform acoustically. Organisers are keen to hear from local artists, not just country acts, who are keen to perform on the day and donate their time to this worthy cause. Is proudly sponsored and supported by Red Centre Consultancy Pty Ltd, Absolute Real Estate, Southern Cross Television, Darwin City Council and Tim’s Reef & Beef. Where: Gardens Amphitheatre. When: Saturday 18th April. Time: 6pm. Costs: Family $50 (2 adults, 2 children), Adult $20, Child/Concession $10.
