JAMES HEADS INDEPENDENT AWARDS FINALISTS

Press Release: Multiple Golden Guitar winner James Blundell leads the finalists for the 2005 Telstra Country Wide Southern Stars - the 9th Australian Independent Country Music Awards of Australia. Following the release of his new album Deluge, James scored four nominations in Independent Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Heritage Track and Male Vocal. Fellow Golden Guitar winners Jeff Brown, Tracy Coster and Travis Sinclair also featured strongly in the nominations with three finalist berths each. Jeff appears in Single, Heritage and Male Vocal, Tracy in Album with Coster Country, Heritage and Female Vocal, and Travis raises his hand in Album with Rush, Single and Male Vocal. Talented newcomer Darren Colston, a dual Toyota Star Maker Grand Finalist, also joins the three-time club with his debut album Come By Chance providing berths in Album, Heritage and Rising Star Male. Sydney band Jonah’s Road is the other multiple finalist in Single of the Year and Album with Hold On. “It was a tough task for the judges in a record year for entries,” said Awards co-ordinator John Arnold. “255 individual entries were received for the seven judged categories, representing recorded product from 112 individual artists and groups.” The list of finalists also highlights an interesting trend with former major label artists returning to the Independent recording ranks. Both James Blundell and Female Vocalist finalist Tania Kernaghan are prime examples, as was last year’s Female Vocalist winner Felicity Urquhart.
